What is hip-hop?

hip hop class at Sita cultural centreHip-hop is a dance popularised in the 1970’s in the USA. This dance developed to become a real social phenomenon. It now has an impact on education and even on how to dress and this create a proper culture. Several different styles of hip-hop exist. Each one is composed of specific steps and sequences. That is why a large number of persons are practicing hip-hop around the world. There also are lots of competitions. They are called “battles” and usually happen between several teams (« dance crew »). As the movement is gathering more and more interest, the highest competitions are now happening on an international level.

Benefits from this dance

Thanks to all the different styles of dance, children will be freer to express themselves and will be able to develop their creativity. It will also allow them to move and spend their energy having fun as the rhythm is often fast. They will also learn to remember choreographies and work in team so that the final performance is harmonious.
Moreover, they will be proud to show the result of their efforts. For 3 years now, kids had the chance to present their work during the end of the year show in front of the admiration of the members of the audience.

Classes in SITA

For beginners, those regular hip-hop classes will enable the children to familiarise themselves with the dance and to learn the basic steps. They will have the opportunity to discover this urban culture through both choreographies and music.
